(Yuan Zhi 远志)

The roots are cylindrical and slightly curved. The surface ranges from grayish-yellow to grayish-brown, featuring dense and deeply sunken horizontal wrinkles, vertical, and natural cracks. Older roots typically have deeper, more pronounced wrinkles and a slightly nodular appearance. The texture is firm and brittle, breaking easily. The cross-section shows a brownish-yellow outer layer and a yellowish-white woody core, with the outer bark layer easily separating from the inner core.

Nature & Flavor: Bitter, mildly aromatic, and warming
Traditionally used in herbal preparations to support overall wellness balance and maintain herbal harmony.

Suggested Preparation: Traditionally prepared in herbal decoctions using approximately 3–10g.
For external use, the herb may be ground into powder and mixed according to traditional practices for topical application.
