Houttuynia (Yu Xing Cao 鱼腥草) features twisted flattened stems with a yellowish-brown surface and natural vertical ridges. The leaves are heart-shaped when opened, with dark green to brownish tones and a naturally delicate texture. The herb carries a distinctive herbal aroma and a slightly astringent taste. Products with abundant green leaves, visible flower spikes, and a richer natural aroma are generally considered premium quality.

Suggested Preparation:
